Assessment

Psychological and Neuropsychological testing

There are many different types of Psychological and Neuropsychological tests and many reasons to seek out an assessment. Some of the most common reasons people seek psych evaluations from MSMHS include:

  • Cognitive Decline
  • Dementia
  • Workers’ Compensation
  • Better Understanding of Mental Health
  • Brain Injury
  • Pre-surgical Psych Evaluations

What is a Psychological Evaluation? A psychological assessment can be helpful if you are seeking answers about mental health symptoms you are having. Additionally, it can help if you are seeking a deeper understanding of your personality. Mental health is complex, and symptoms often overlap or look different in different people. A diagnostic assessment can give you a better understanding of yourself, your personality, and your diagnosis. In addition to offering recommendations for the best treatments and other strategies to manage symptoms and improve your wellbeing.

What is Neuropsychological testing? A neuropsychological assessment generally includes a clinical interview followed by several measures (tests). All of which help determine how your brain functions. MSMHS offers comprehensive testing for memory/cognitive changes and general cognition. Neuropsychological assessment can be helpful for dementia testing as well as if you have noticed changes in your brain function related to the following:

  • aging
  • illness
  • a stroke
  • menopause
  • traumatic brain injury
  • other medical events

Neuropsychological testing can give you information about a diagnosis, causes of the change, your brain’s strengths and vulnerabilities and recommendations for the most effective ways to manage any changes you have experienced.
